Professor Brian Fildes has a Ph.D. in Psychology and qualifications in Engineering and his speciality is Human Factors research. He has particular interests in occupant protection, driver perception and injuries to older people, both on the road and in the home. He joined MUARC soon after it was established in 1987 and has developed and manages a team of researchers and graduate students working on a number of research projects. He has been instrumental in helping government agencies implement a number of new injury prevention countermeasures and programs as well as evaluating real world crash performance for the automotive industry.

The Monash University Accident Research Centre is a leading Australian injury prevention and control research institute. Its charter includes safety in all modes of transport, in the workplace, in the community and in the home.
